DOES SALT MAKE ACNE WORSE...

CONTROL ACNE FLARE-UPS CHICO      916SKIN- ACNE CLINIC

The iodide found in table salt (NaCl) is a well known trigger for many acne sufferers out there. This is largely due to the high sodium content found in sodas, juices, energy drinks and processed foods. While iodide is an important electrolyte required by the body to function efficiently, too much iodide can be harmful. With the addition of many high sodium foods and drinks in our diet, it's become easy to consume too much salt, which can lead to a host of physiological imbalances.

Conversely, there are individuals who actually benefit from excess salt. In regard to the acne sufferer, these are typically the people with adrenal insufficiency otherwise known as adrenal fatigue. This condition often results from long term stress, but can also develop as a result of acute stress brought on by a major life event such as divorce, death, bankruptcy, surgery or pneumonia.  The acne sufferer with adrenal insufficiency often benefits from additional salt, but not the type associated with junk and processed foods and drinks. Adrenal fatigue benefits from mineral rich sea salt.
