Human Skin Color - Meet The Melanosomes

ACNE SCAR TREATMENT IN CHICO, CA   916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

The color of human skin depends on the amount of pigment (melanin) that the body produces. Everyone has, roughly, the same number of pigment producing cells (melanosomes). It's just that some people's melanosomes produce more pigment than others. So, the more melanin your melanosomes produce - the darker your skin color. The less melanin your melanosomes produce the lighter your skin color.

Acne Skin Care Tips for Lilly...

ACNE SKIN CARE IN CHICO, CA     916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

Dear Lilly,

Thank you so much for writing a testimonial. According to your chart,  you started the acne program in mid October of 2012, and were 98% clear by the end of January 2013. So, you got clear in about 3-1/2 months!!! Congratulations, all that time and effort you have put in - has finally paid off.  The key at this point, is continuing to be diligent about your daily regimen and sunscreen.

#1) Being consistent with your morning and evening skincare regimen will keep your skin clear!

#2) Acne products make your skin more sensitive to the sun, and therefore, more vulnerable to sun damage. So, make sure to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day even on cloudy or rainy days. This also means that dark marks left on the skin from past breakouts can become more pronounced with sun exposure - another reason to slather your face in sunscreen!

Enjoy your spring break. I'm hoping to see pictures of you wearing a big broad rimmed hat! See you in 6 weeks.

Cheers,
Tatja

Best Massage in Chico - Bella's Therapeutic Massage!!!

916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC in CHICO, CA

BELLA'S THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE IN CHICO now located within
916SKIN.

"Bella just gave me the most amazing massage yesterday! WOWSY! It's crazy how much strength she has in just one finger!

I had an injury over 15 years ago that still causes pain on my vertebra. I get nervous during a massage because I'm afraid the massage therapist will hurt me, or not know how to address my injury. This can make it really hard to relax!  But, Bella new exactly what to do. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable of anatomy and body mechanics, but she's got a sixth sense that guides her. She used what she called Traction and Range of Motion massage techniques to address my pain. She's the first person that's been able to get into that sensitive area and give me relief. Her experience in Chiropractic Massage set me at ease - I was able to trust, relax, and begin the healing process.

I highly recommend BELLA'S THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE for anyone seeking pain management or pure relaxation."

Should I Try ProActive to Treat My Acne

TREATMENT FOR ACNE IN CHICO, CA at 916SKIN ACNE CLINIC

Proactiv acne care solution works for some people. So, if you have acne - why not give it a try?
It's affordable and accessible. What do you have to lose? Time. Money. And, a sliver of your life if it doesn't work.

The majority of patients who come to 916SKIN - ACNE SKINCARE CLINIC have tried proactiv. It works for a while, but then, it stops working. Why is this?

Proactiv is a "one-size-fits-all" approach to acne. Different skin types call for different products. Different types of acne call for different types of products. Each patient in our ACNE TREATMENT PROGRAM is sent home with an acne skincare system, BUT it's different for every person.

Proactive products contain sulfur. Some people have allergies to sulfur. For others, it's just too drying and irritating to use on a daily basis.

When a skincare product or an acne skincare system works for a while and then stops working, this indicates that your skin has adapted to the product, and that it simply needs MORE.  More what? This can mean many things. You may need stronger active ingredients. You may need a different active ingredient. You may need additional active ingredients, or more frequency. There are a lot of factors, and this is why each person needs to be treated individually.

Rubbing Alcohol for Acne... Seriously?

ACNE SKIN TREATMENT CHICO, CA    916SKIN ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC

Angelina has oily skin, but do you think she uses rubbing alcohol on her face??? I don't think so!!!

Stripping your skin of oil triggers your sebaceous glands to produce even more oil in order to compensate for the loss. More oil can lead to more breakouts so put away the rubbing  alcohol!

Your skin is slightly acidic. Think - vinegar and oranges.  You want a cleanser, toner, and exfoliator that also have an acidic pH. Unfortunately, the term "pH balanced" doesn't hold much meaning with over-the-counter products. It is merely a marketing ploy.

Most dermatologists and skin care practitioners carry products that are formulated to compliment your skin's pH. For best results with your acne skin care products, see an Acne Specialist to have your acne evaluated. A skin evaluation helps ensure that you are sent home with the proper products for your acne.

Toxic Overload Can Trigger Acne...

916SKIN - ACNE SKIN CARE CLINIC IN CHICO, CA   (530) 503.9169

  • Your liver performs over 200 functions, including the removal of most drugs and chemicals from your bloodstream, and breaking them down to be quickly removed from your body. Breaking down toxic substances creates biproducts that can be extremely damaging to the liver. Although the liver has the ability to regenerate, constant exposure to toxic substances can cause a variety of skin conditions including acne, as well as serious, and sometimes irreversible damage.
The following substances can cause symptoms of toxic overload AND toxic hepatitis:

  • Alcohol. Heavy drinking over many years can lead to symptoms of toxicity and eventually inflammation of the liver.
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers. Non-prescription pain relievers such as naproxen (Aleve), acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, others) can damage your liver, especially when taken frequently or taken with alcohol.
  • Prescription medications. Medications associated with serious liver injury include isoniazid, alothane,  valproic acid (Depakene), azathioprine (Azasan, Imuran), phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek), iacin (Niaspan),  lovastatin (Mevacor), atorvastatin (Lipitor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), fluvastatin (Lescol), ketoconazole, as well as certain antibiotics, antivirals and anabolic steroids.
  • Herbal supplements. Herbs that are considered dangerous to the liver include cascara, chaparral, comfrey, kava and ephedra.
  • Vitamin supplements. Children can develop inflammation of the liver of liver damage if they take large doses of vitamin supplements - often mistaken for candy.
  • Industrial chemicals.  Common chemicals that can injur the liver include the dry cleaning solvent carbon tetrachloride, a substance used to make plastics called vinyl chloride, the herbicide paraquat and a group of industrial chemicals called polychlorinated biphenyls.

Chemical Peels for Treating Acne

ACNE SKIN REJUVENATION IN CHICO, CA    916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

Chemical peels... sweeter than an orange!

Chemical peel treatments are one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures in the past five years. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 1.1 million procedures were performed in 2010. Chemical peels can be highly effective in treating acne when used in combination with the appropriate acne care products. Peels also give the added benefits of younger looking skin by improving or correcting skin tone, skin texture and fine lines. While skin peels address textural issues, true acne scarring often requires a variety of treatment modalities and more aggressive peeling techniques.

Chemical peels can greatly improve skin sagging and deep wrinkles when used in combination with lasers and injectables, however, they are not an effective tool when used alone.
