Our acne patients are often surprised when we tell them to wear sunscreen - even when they're indoors.

This photo is of a woman who worked in an office with the left side of her face towards the window for over 20 years. Now, imagine what she would look like if she was using acne products that made her skin even more vulnerable to the sun!

Using acne skincare products makes skin more vulnerable to skin cancer and accelerated aging as well as acne breakouts.

Sunscreen is important weather you are inside or outside, but it's especially important if you spend even the shortest amount of time outdoors. People often have different ideas of what it means to be outdoors. And that running errands, dashing in and out of your car and into buildings does not count as being outdoors. Oh, but it does! The following are examples of being outdoors:

- Being in school all day. You still have to go outside when you walk to your classes. And, don't forget about the reflective rays during the drive, or the direct exposure if you walked or rode your bike to school.

- Working inside all day. You get sun exposure on your drive to and from work, at lunch time if you go out for lunch or sit outside - even if it's in the shade.

- Running errands. Even short bursts of sunlight can damage your skin. Also, there are reflective rays while driving.

It only takes 10 SECONDS of sun exposure for a brown spot to form subsurface in the skin. If you want to have have healthy, youthful, clear skin - REAPPLY SUNSCREEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY!

Many acne patients ask me, "do I have to reapply my sunscreen even if I'm indoors?"  The answer is yes.

#1) UVA rays bounce off cars, streets, rocks, patios and THROUGH windows.

#2) Fluorescent light and other types of indoor lighting emit small amounts of UVA, which may not sound like a big deal, but when you're exposed to it on a daily basis it will eventually take its toll on your skin. Especially, if you work in an environment that has a lot of fluorescent lighting.

CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH - HOLD THE DAIRY

ACNE SKIN CONSULTATION OROVILLE, CA    916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

There are many tactics to get rid of your acne. First, start by cutting out the dairy. This can be a difficult food to cut out, especially for cheese & mayo lovers, but eliminating dairy has a significant effect on many of our acne patients. If avoiding dairy seems unrealistic, start slowly. Limit your intake of dairy to every other day for 2 weeks. Then, cut back to every 3 days for 2 weeks and so on. It gets much easier once you have found some replacement foods. Hummus makes a great mayo substitute!

CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH - HOLD THE DAIRY:
- Boneless chicken
- Chicken broth
- Cherry tomatoes
- Diced bell pepper
- Diced red onion
- Baby peas
- Hummus
- Salt & pepper

If using rotisserie chicken skip the broth. When baking chicken, pour broth over breasts, cover and bake on 350 for 25 - 30 minutes. Cut chicken into bite sized pieces, put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix.
