WHAT IS YOUR ACNE SCORE - PILLSBURY

ACNE TREATMENT PLAN CHICO, CA         916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

The earliest known acne grading system was published in 1956 by Pillsbury, Shelley and Kligman. The Pillsbury grading score is one of several grading systems used to classifying different types of acne. The Pillsbury grading score can be found in the Pillsbury Textbook of Dermatology. Over the years, it has been modified in various ways by different practitioners to better accommodate their scope of treatment and acne treatment protocols. The following is based on the Pillsbury classification:

GRADE I ACNE: Comedones and occasional small cysts confined to the face.

GRADE II ACNE: Comedones with occasional pustules and small cysts confined to the face.

GRADE III ACNE: Many comedones and small and large inflammatory papules and pustules, more extensive but confined to the face.

GRADE IV ACNE: Many comedones and deep lesions tending to coalesce and canalize, and involving the face and the upper aspects of the trunk.

ALTERNATIVE ACNE TREATMENT IN CHICO...

ALTERNATIVE ACNE TREATMENT CHICO     916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

We are often asked, "are most of your acne patients teenagers?"  People are surprised when they learn that the majority of our acne patients are in their late 20s to late 30s.

Acne is often thought of as a teenage rite of passage, as common as a change in voice or getting your period. Teenage acne is unquestionably common, but we see many more acne patients in their 20s and 30s experiencing adult-onset acne. We also have patients well into their 40s, and to a much lesser extent - their 50s.

Conventional medicine prescribes medications to treat acne with potentially harmful long-lasting side effects. Fortunately, alternative acne treatment is taking stride. Alternative acne treatments sidestep the negative effects associated with prescription acne medications. Alternative treatment typically includes a combination of treatment modalities that address such factors as oil production, cell-turn-over and bacteria; where the focus is on uncovering the underlying issues that trigger an individual's acne.

DRUG FREE ALTERNATIVE ACNE TREATMENT IS AVAILABLE AT 916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC. PLEASE CALL TO SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION WITH AN ACNE SPECIALIST. (530) 503.9169

DIFFERENT PERCENTAGES FOR ACNE

BEST ACNE PRODUCTS CHICO      916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC

Many of the active ingredients in acne skin care products are offered at varying strengths. Different percentages provide different results.

Salicylic acid is commonly used as a topical acne treatment and found in over-the-counter (OTC) acne care products at 2 percent. Salicylic products purchased through a skin care practitioner or dermatologist can be found at concentrations ranging from 5 to 9 percent.

While a higher concentration of actives are not always the best treatment for acne, building up to a higher concentration over time can be quite effective.  The best approach to acne therapy is a combination of skin care products, each with a different function, to tackle acne from all angles.

ONE OF OUR ACNE SPECIALISTS WILL START YOU ON AN ACNE TREATMENT PLAN THAT WILL CLEAR YOUR ACNE IN 12 TO 16 WEEKS. (530) 503.9169

EYE TREATMENTS THAT WON'T CLOG MY PORES...

WHERE TO BUY AT HOME LASER IN CHICO   916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

Many acne patients ask " What is the best treatment for eye wrinkles that will not clog my pores."

Wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes form due to a combination of factors: free radical damage (from UV or benzoyl peroxide), loss of collagen and elastin, estrogen imbalance or low estrogen, dehydrated skin/loss of natural moisturizing factor (NMF), genetics, and repetitive movement (i.e. squinting, laughing).

Using a quality vitamin C serum, peptide serum, or eye cream with a blend of actives is a good start, but  speak to an acne skincare specialist first to ensure that it will not clog your pores. A professional sunscreen with at least 10% zinc or titanium is always a good preventative. It's never too late to start wearing sunscreen. Something occlusive over the eye area to prevent water loss and encourage skin renewal is also a bonus.

While eye serums, creams and sunscreen are essential for eye care, they will only take you so far. There are scores of laser treatments and light treatments out there to improve the clarity, tone and texture of the skin.

PaloVia at home laser has proven to be safe and effective for at-home use, which has earned it its FDA approval for efficaciously treating crow's feet, fine lines and even softening deeper wrinkles around the eyes.  At $499, PaloVia Laser is well worth the investment, and makes skin rejuvenation both affordable and convenient!

VITAMIN C FLUSH FOR ACNE...

CHICO ACNE SKIN TREATMENTS     916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

Many acne sufferers battle stress-induced acne. Stress not only influences oil production, but it also influences certain nutrients including vitamin C. The adrenal glands are fueled, in part, by vitamin C. If you are under stress, supplementing with the correct dosage of this nutrient will help your body manage stress and stress related breakouts.

The Vitamin C Flush is a self-testing method for determining your daily required dosage of Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). The process entails increasing your intake of L-ascorbic acid every 15 minutes until your bowels eliminate liquid. Knowing your vitamin C requirements is important, as humans neither produce nor store vitamin C.

THINGS YOU NEED FOR THE VITAMIN C FLUSH:
  • L-ascorbate buffered with: 66 mg of potassium, 27 mg of calcium, 11 mg of magnesium, and 400 mg of zinc (amount of buffering minerals are based on 1 gram).
  • Pen & paper
  • Glass
  • Spoon
  • Water
  • Timer
  • Toilet
TIME REQUIRED TO DO THE FLUSH:
1 to 6 hours, possibly more.

WHEN TO DO THE FLUSH:
In the morning on an empty stomach & when you can be close to a toilet.

STEP 1:
Mix 1/2 teaspoon (1.5g) of buffered L-ascorbate powder in 2 oz. or more of room temperature water. Dissolve completely and drink. Record the dosage. Wait 15 minutes.

STEP 2:
Continue repeating step 1 every 15 minutes until you have have a liquid stool.
CAUTION: Do not stop when you have a loose stool. Continue repeating step 1 every 15 minutes until you express a LIQUID.
FOR HELP DETERMINING YOUR DAILY DOSAGE OF VITAMIN C OR TO SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION WITH AN ACNE SPECIALIST PLEASE CALL 916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC. (530) 503.9169

No. PaloVia At-Home Laser is not FDA approved to treat acne. PaloVia was designed for skin rejuvenation around the eye area, and when used according to manufacturers instructions, it reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

There is information on-line about people who have used PaloVia in an attempt to treat their acne. If you are thinking of trying this, I strongly urge you to reconsider. Although PaloVia Laser is safe and effective for at home use, it is not designed to treat acne. If it truly worked on acne, everyone would be using it, and acne would no longer affect an average of 60 million Americans.

VITAMIN C FOR STRESS AND ACNE...

ACNE PRODUCTS IN CHICO, CA   916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC

CAN STRESS CAUSE ACNE?
While stress is not the cause of acne, it can act as a powerful trigger. If you are prone to breakouts, stress will likely trigger a flare-up in a matter of hours. If you already have acne, stress can will make your acne worse.

When we are under stress our body's require more vitamin C. This is because the adrenal glands, which produce your "stress hormones" (hormones that help you deal with stress), need vitamin C to function. The more stress you encounter, the more work required for your adrenal glands to produce hormones, and the more vitamin C required for tip top functioning.  Vitamin C is used throughout the entire adrenal cascade and acts as an antioxidant within the adrenal glands. A higher vitamin C intake when you are under any type of stress will help your body manage stress and can help control acne breakouts.

AZELAIC ACID FOR ACNE & ROSACEA...

CHICO ACNE ROSACEA    916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC

AZELAIC ACID...
Azelaic acid, found in wheat, rye and barley can be an effective topical for treating acne and/or acne rosacea (papulopustular rosacea). Many dermatologists prescribe azelaic acid for the treatment of acne rosacea at a percentage of 15 and higher, but prescription strength is often times unnecessary. In clinical trials, a combination of non-prescription strength azelaic acid and salicylic acid proved to eliminate redness and clear blemishes in acne rosacea patients without irritating the skin.

Although azelaic and salicylic acid are both anti-inflammatories, some patients will experience redness when using azelaic or salicylic-based skincare products. The reaction may be due to pH, percentage, or another ingredient in the formulation. Before purchasing rosacea or acne skincare products, it's important to seek the guidance of a skin health practitioner for sensitivity testing of products. Taking this step is crucial in selecting skincare products that work for you and not against you.

PRODUCT SENSITIVITY TESTING IS AVAILABLE AT 916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC.

ABOUT ACNE AND ROSACEA...

ACNE ROSACEA TREATMENTS CHICO    916SKIN - ACNE CLINIC

ROSACEA...
is a chronic skin condition, which often involves inflammation of the cheeks, chin, nose and forehead. Rosacea sufferers may experience sensitivity, persistent redness, excessive flushing, broken capillaries, inflamed pimples and pustules, and in more advanced cases, thickened nodular skin or inflamed or weeping eyes. While rosacea is referred to by some as adult acne, true adult acne can be accompanied with or without the presentations of rosacea.

In many cases, rosacea stems from an imbalance of the gut. Certain dietary, chemical and environmental elements can trigger rosacea.  Avoiding common triggers such as extreme climates, spicy food, stress, alcohol-based skincare products and smoking can help decrease the outward symptoms of acne rosacea.

SHOULD ACNE PEELS BURN MY SKIN...

There are many effective acne treatments in Chico, or peel treatments, that leave the skin in a healthy state with no redness, no down-time, and great results.  Treatments for acne, acne scarring, and aging are available at 916SKIN - ACNE TREATMENT CLINIC. (530) 503.9169

Samantha from Sex & the City had the skincare industry whipped into a frenzy when she was seen with a burnt face from the result of a chemical peel. Professional peels should not leave you red!

That's right, acne peels, chemical peels and/or professional peels should never leave your face red! Not unless you are having a deep chemical peel, which in that case, should only be performed by a physician.

There are 4 classifications of chemical peels: very superficial, superficial, medium and deep. The type of peeling agent(s) used, formulation, concentration and pH, are a few of the variables that set one peel apart from another. The depth the peeling solution travels into the skin is multi-factorial, and the number of layers and/or the amount of time the peel is left on the skin before it's neutralized also weighs in on the skin's response. Chemical peels that leave the skin red, burnt or blistered are commonly due to at-home experimentation, and occasionally inexperienced estheticians.

Your skincare practitioner may perform spot testing on the skin prior to your peel, and will go over your medical history to help determine, which peel, if any, is right for you. Experience has revealed that true allergic reactions to chemical peels are rare. But, should it occur, just know that even the most resilient, non-sensitive skin type can have a reaction.

Just for laughs, here is Samanatha's scene
from Sex & the City.
